Activities around Stamford

The following list is a work in progress and, like so much stuff on the web, under construction.  We have been visitors to almost every place on this list, some a lot more than once, and can highly recommend them. unless noted otherwise :-)
Check out the city of Stamford's web page for more info.

Boundless Playground

Still Meadows Elementary School Boundless Playground

Playgrounds:

Here are some of my favorite playgrounds for meeting moms and other kids in and around Stamford:
  • Chestnut Hill Park
    • Playground, picnic area, baseball/softball field and rest rooms. Approx. 6 acres.
  • Still Meadows Elementary School
    • boundless playground (in back of elementary school, great for a little older kids, too)
  • Newfield Elementary School (big playground behind the school on the left)
  • Cove Island Park (beach sticker required between Memorial and Labor Day)
  • Stamford Museum and Nature Center
    • Entrance fee. Nature's Playground, great for older kids, too. See also: Museums and other attractions.
  • Scalzy Park
    • Approx. 48 acres, baseball, night lighting, Little League, softball, soccer, basketball, tennis, playground, bocce courts, fitness course, roller hockey rinks.

Children and youth groups:

  • One of the best resource and place to meet other moms is the Moms Club of Stamford. They meet regularly have playgroups for different ages, moms nights out. They have different chapters depending on in which part of Stamford you live.
  • The Ferguson library has great toddler music groups and other kid friendly activities and crafts. I usually go to the Harry Bennett Branch off Vine road. It is nice, big and has convenient parking. The main library downtown is harder to access. There is no close parking. The closest public parking lot is on Bedford Street between Forest and Broad Streets (parking meters).
  • Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford. Great way to meet other moms. Meetings usually center around Christian religious topics.
  • AWANA is not really a playgroup, but a mix between a youth church group and a scout program. I was amazed at the number of kids, all ages, going there. The staff/volunteers are great and the whole thing is very organized. If you are looking for a Christian youth group definitely check it out there aren't that many in Stamford.
