A Website for stamford parents
The following list is a work in progress and, like so much stuff
on the web, under construction. We have been visitors to almost
every place on this list, some a lot more than once, and can highly
recommend them. unless noted otherwise :-)
Check out the city of Stamford's web page for more info.
Museums:A lot of the places also do birthday parties. Depending on scope and size you usually pay between $150 and $400 per party.
Great for elementary school age children. I love the
"new" Animal Embassy. The volunteers and staff is great
and very knowledgeable. They also have a wonderful
"Nature's Playground" that even older kids might enjoy.
Working farm, live animals, observatory, events, museums
& exhibits, nature trails, many activities for children
Children's museum with hands-on exhibits. Great for kids
10 and under. The family pass (unlimited visits for one
year) is worthwhile and overall cheaper if you decide to
come more often.
As the Beardsley zoo, the aquarium is smaller in size,
but still great to visit. As with the children's museum
the family pass is a great idea to get if you want to
visit more often.
Nice, small zoo. Just the right size to not overwhelm
kids. They exhibits primarily North and South American
animals (including many endangered and threatened
species) such as monkeys, tigers and bears. Highlights
include a Tropical Rain forest, Carousel, New England
Farmyard, Victorian Greenhouse, and Peacock Cafe.
One of my favorite museums in the greater Stamford area.
About a 2h drive from Stamford (east of Mystic). We have
been there at least 4-5 times. It has a great life sized
exhibit of an Indian village and audiotape explanations.
Plan at least 2-3h or more. We often combine it with a
visit to Mystic.
One of those great outings when the weather is nice.
Mystic Seaport is a "life museum" and can occupy kids
for a whole day. If you go in the during the peak season
you have the advantage of a lot of life demonstrations
but the disadvantage of large crowds!
I love the Mystic Aquarium. It seems bigger than the
Norwalk Aquarium and has outdoor exhibits but not as
overwhelming as the Baltimore Aquarium (which is great,
but big).
