Dear Parent or Guardian:
Thank you for your application(s) to the magnet school(s) for entry of
your child to kindergarten in September 2007.
At the districtwide Magnet Meeting held on December 6, 2006 and at
orientation meetings held at the elementary magnet schools, we
emphasized that "the chief purposes of the magnet schools are to assist
in managing enrollment and racial balance while providing educational
options" (Stamford Board of Education Policy #5117.2). Therefore, we
conduct a "controlled" lottery and place restrictions on the admission
of students from selected elementary schools to the magnet schools.
For September 2007, kindergarten admission to the magnet schools will
be restricted for Majority/Minority students. Specifically,
restrictions will affect Majority students from Hart, K.T. Murphy,
Rogers, and Stark. Restrictions will affect Minority students from
Newfield, Northeast, and Roxbury. The lottery drawing will reflect
these restrictions to meet district needs.
We invite you to the lottery drawing which will be held on Friday,
March 16, 2007 at 1:30p.m. in the fifth floor Board Room of the
Government Center. If you attend the lottery drawing, you will receive
your child's lottery number(s) at that time. If you are not present for
the drawing, please call the Research Office during the week of March
19-23 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and speak to Pam Fox (977-4750)
or Carol Zezima (977-4198) to obtain your child's lottery number(s).
Letters of invitation for the magnet elementary schools will be mailed
home by March 31. Parents will have until Monday, April 16 to reply by
phone or letter.
A summary of key lottery dates is described on the back of this letter.
We are proud of all Stamford's elementary schools and wish your child
and family a wonderful elementary school experience.
Sincerely
(signed Judith Singer)
